On Paths of Discovery; prose about life, nature

Days would sometimes pass in longing

Pathways worn in silent wander

Solitude of lake’s surrender

Unfolding before my eyes of

Insatiate thirst for calm and beauty

From waters stilled and tree limbs hanging

O’er liquid mirrors, tallgrass standing

Footpaths yielding new directions

Heaven’s cloud and powder blue is

Draped upon horizon’s waiting

Thereupon the artist’s easel

Life and living, comfort seasons

Gentle winds on leaves caressing

Ghostly whispers, twilight savor

Peace on woodland’s canopy would

Grace the heart and soul forever

  1. Love your opening here, Don:

Days would sometimes pass in longing
    Pathways’ worn in silent wander…”

Very, very fine… And you made me feel very seasonal with this, without any seasonal references at all – just the resonant and gentle, well crafted hues of nature – very clever and admirable… Regards as ever Scott http://www.scotthastie.com

    1. Thank you Darlene! I am focusing on a modified feel and tone to my writing style this year, appealing to a broader audience and really reaching out with the words, their meaning, their delivery. It is a more relaxed yet pleasantly familiar style that suits me just fine! Your ever-present enthusiasm here is a blessing Darlene.

    1. Thank you Richard. Wonderful to see your visit and I’m touched that you got something positive from this piece. As mentioned to Darlene through her own comment I am exploring new directions in terms of my writing style and audience reach while embracing the core of my own literary values and discipline through poetry and verse. Much of my writing is inspired by the human relationship, experience and the tremendous natural elements that surround us in the great outdoors. My words frequent a spiritual tone and, something close to your own heart, explore the limitless possibilities that life brings and challenges us to reach out to.

      1. In fact I read it a few times and it’s like it expanded each time I read it.

Yes, that’s best way to go – we must embrace the core of our own way…

        Have a bless one!

      2. That is the very compelling aspect of poetry and prose Richard. I’m so glad to see that, firstly, you enjoyed second reading, and secondly, that your subsequent interpretations were varied…the essence of what my writing is all about…the personal treasure of one’s own interpretation. I choose my words very carefully to that very end! Thank you for sharing your experience with me…I could ask for nothing more!
